my wife, who now thinks i am not competent enough to discuss spiritual matters with the kids, thinks that i could really benefit from discussing matters of the bible with this nasa engineer who attends meetings at her kingdom hall.
apparently, he is quite knowledgeable in the bible and has a good grasp of their doctrines.
at least according to her as i never actually spoken with the man at length but i do know that he is an elder.
If a NASA Engineer or any highly educated person agrees with or becomes a JW, they feel it gives them more credibility and they'll quote him and use him as an example of how even intellegent ones can recognize the truth of their message. If that same person were to later point out the flaws in the doctrine or the science in the Bible, they'd dismiss him and say they are blinded by mere human thinking and knowledge and use him as an example of how dangerous higher education is to ones spirituality.
Your wife is impressed by his non JW credentials and assumes that if someone like him can accept the "truth" there must be more to it than even she herself realized and surely a smart guy like him should be able to hold his own with you better than she is able to.
too bad these nice folks are part of babylon the great and are doomed followers of satan.. http://jesusdaily.com/cardboard-mark-11/#wsvtkf7bbaywgdyc.01.
Their spirituality is all in their heads since as we all know, JW's have the market cornered on true spirituality in this world. Everyone elses's prayers fall on deaf ears.
today he kept bumping in to (or rather dodging and weaving from) fellow witnesses.
he's talking about returning but can't figure out a way to do it without enduring a fair amount of humiliation.
i did not panic.
Information is key to getting over the guilt they instill in a person. Ask him if he remembers how they were counting the days until the end came, back when 9/11 happened and the world trade centers came crashing down.
Then show him the video of the JW's doing Line Dancing at the Kingdom Hall and ask him if he'd ever have thought back on 9/11 that 13 years later we'd still be here and they'd be allowing Line Dancing at the Kingdom Hall.
Maybe it will help him to see what a joke all of it is.
started one thread serious, so thought i'd go light and easy on this one.
so what say yee to this?
here are mr. flippers, about in this order, but not necessarily.

in doing some research, i recently ran across a september 1, 2000 wt article that contained a brother's testimony about his years of service in the organization.. he said, "as we arrived for the meeting one sunday in 1938, two elderly sisters greeted us, and one said: `young brother, have you taken your stand for jehovah yet?
you know, armageddon is just around the corner!
' i knew that jehovah is the only true god, and i was convinced that this is his organization.
Why would the WT run a story like this?
Silly Ding....are you forgetting?? That article was written back in 2000 when they still believed that the 1914 generation wouldn't pass away before Armageddon arrived. Here we are 14 years later, everybodys gone....including the guy in the article I'm sure. Not only that....the 1914 generation idea has been extended out even farther. Like so much of the informaton in those oh so important and thought provoking articles.....it wasn't true and is no longer relevent (not that it ever was).

just had an interesting (?
) visit.. 1.30pm, i was outside the front of my house on a small housing estate doing man-stuff on the car.
three young guys (maybe 16-18 or so) wearing long-sleeved shirts approached.
They like to be the ones with the questions and answers as well as the ones who hava an advantage over you rather than the other way around.
If you know your Bible, ask original "non cookie cutter" questions or already know something about their religion...they run. They are taught that most people don't know anything and it's their job to show them the error of their ways. It blows them away when they find out not everyone is as un questioning as they are.
this is what wt has been producing, this had my bottom jaw on the carpet while i was watching (like the footloose one).
and they say there different from other religions yeah right!!.
i hope this link works https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1vahglagd2i.
No one can deny that they sounded good however I couldn't help but think back on all the reasons they gave in the past as to why a stop was put to this sort of thing a number of decades ago and why it continued to be discouraged by the "Society" for so long.
They said there would be competition and hurt feelings among the brothers and sisters as to "who was best" or "who wasn't good enough to be allowed into the chior or orchestra" (this was a problem back when there used to be an orchestra at the assemblies).
They said a spirit of competition much like is found in Christendoms churches began to enter in among the "friends". Jealousy and resentment crept in because certain ones thought favoritisim was being shown...etc.
They said these kinds of displays would draw attention to individuals rather than to Jehovah and would detract from the message. In fact in our Hall, our piano player was admonished not to add small flourishes at the end of each verse lest he distract the congregation from their intent to worship Jehovah with reverence.
The Conductor, in this video with his dramatic opening, his roaring from atop the balcony at the top of his lungs and his overly large movements while conducting the singers, did give me the idea that this was all about him and was his chance to shine and live out his moment of glory in the spotlight. I mean he practically threw his back out just leading a group of singers in a Kingdom song...and they probably would have done just fine without him. (You just know there was a bunch of sisters who rushed up to him afterward gushing with praise.)
I've seen these types of guys before, especially in Bethel and especially among the black brothers from the south. There seemed to be a tendancy with them to become all "Baptist Minister" when they had a talk to give or some small reason to stand in front of an audience to say something or even make a small announcement of some sort. It was such a huge deal to them and they took it all so seriously. That conductor reminded me of exactly what they'd do, even though a JW has it drummed their heads to be humble, unassuming, not to draw undue attention to ones self, a quiet and mild spirit....etc which is all very nice, but goes too far the other way and is a bit boring. Trouble is, following that advice, you wind up with an organization where everyone is about as interesting as yesterday's oatmeal.
At least the change that seems to be happening, will be a lot more interesting and entertaining for those who do manage to stick around.
i know it's a completely absurd thing to say, but something happened to me today that triggered the old cult reaction.
my mind instantly lapsed back into that of a jw and for a split second i thought that because i wasn't doing jehovah things that jehovah's blessing had been removed from me and this is why my life seems to be running into so many dead-ends.
as a jw i attributed anything good happening to me to being the result of my being a good jw and dutifully doing everything the borg teaches.
I completely understand your thinking pattern. After being a lifelong Witness, I left the organization on my own about 7 years ago and expected, in the back of my mind that things might fall apart because God would no longer be blessing me (as if he was anyway). A few weeks later I got the best job I've ever had. Full benefits, pension, great people, interesting work etc. Then the economy fell apart a few months later and while thousands were getting laid off all over the City, I got a big raise. I then began to wonder in the back of my mind if Satan was helping me !! I realized that they (JW's) had it set up so that whether things were going well or going badly, you could find a way to blame it on some magical outside force. Other than losing my old network of friends, it's been one improvement after another and little by little the old superstitious mindset is wearing off.
Seven years later, things are still going well but once in awhile I catch myself going back to that old mindset when there's an earthquake somewhere. The years of "disaster preparadness training" will probably always be something we deal with but with time, one gets better at counteracting the old mantras we had cemented in our minds.
I hope things improve for you soon and you won't feel that the universe or God or anything is against you. I've had times when it seems like that is so but then for whatever reason, your efforts pay off. Then just as quickly you can start to see reasons why the universe or God is helping you. I think it's all about persistance, timing and being prepared when some good coincidence happens your way, you're ready to go.
